Spring Visit | McKinney Falls State Park | 03.2017

We’ve been cooped up for the weekend because of Hurricane Harvey. The amount of rain we’ve received has been amazing. I enjoy a few rainy days here and there but I need my sunshine. I am so ready for this to slow especially for those along the coast that have lost so much already.

All the rain has me thinking about warmer spring days like the one we enjoyed back in March at McKinney Falls State Park. It started out chilly but quickly warmed up and we hiked and picnicked with family.

Sweet Berry Farm | Marble Falls, TX | 10.05.2013

Sweet Berry Farm is a great little place to take a day trip from Austin. I had not visited in quite a while and it was a lot bigger this time, like 5 times bigger. The last time I went was to pick strawberries. This time we picked flowers and had a hayride. William rode the tractor train by himself and pet as many goats as he could. There were a lot of other activities but most of them were for older kids like sand art and painting your own pumpkin. I highly recommend it for kids of all ages! Take a lot of cash though. It’s free to get in and park but all the activities are anywhere from $1 to $5 per person.

Oh my word, these faces! I am not sure if he is impressed or not.

Family hayride! The tractor scared William at first and then he sat on my lap and was ok.

There are two sides to the farm…on one side of the road are the crafts, food and pumpkins. The other side has the flowers, rides and goats. You walk through a tunnel under the road to get back and forth.

There was a minor battle wound (not surprised) too. William lost a battle with the gravel walkway. His lip and nose paid the price. You can see his fat upper lip a little bit in this picture.

I loved the flower fields….zinnias and sunflowers. It’s $3 for as many as you can fit in the little vase pouches they give you or if you want sunflowers, you can cut three. I opted for the zinnias and could have spent a long time there.

Such a dirty face but a happy (and sleepy) boy.

What a lovely day! The weather was perfect and we didn’t get rained out which I was a little worried about. Our next day trip will be to Barton Hill Farms in Bastrop. We’ll do the maze there and get some pumpkin photos. Can’t wait!

Hill Country Lavender Farm | Blanco, Texas | 06.14.2013

We did a little day trip to Blanco last week to check out a lavender farm. James and his dad were off doing their thing so it was just us gals with the kiddos.

We had a nice overcast day that wasn’t too hot. The low clouds and mist hanging over the hills made it feel like Scotland rather than the Hill Country….almost.

The farm was lovely but a lot smaller than I expected. It was still fun to pick a couple bunches and just spend time together. William loved the mud and rocks….of course. He and I were both pretty dirty by the time we left.

Yes, he eats dirt.

Comparing shoes.

After the farm we headed into the town square for lunch at Redbud Cafe. It was quite tasty and a good atmosphere for families and kids. The little shop next door, Brieger’s Pottery is a must. Vintage clothes, jewelry, pottery, and fun things from Mexico. Both my sisters picked up some brightly patterned oilcloth for their tables. I found a pair of “garnet” earrings.

I really do enjoy little day trips like this and checking out new places. And if it’s outdoors, even better. William is happy too!
